Border Patrol – A weekly look at racing from both sides of the 1000 Islands

What a difference a year makes.  Just one year ago, we were all jacked up for racing season, warm temperatures and not a sign of snow on the ground.  This year, we are under snow, and the last major snowstorm of the year is hopefully behind us.  Although racing season for some is less than...

The Home Hardware Peewee Islanders started off their “Second Season” with a bang last Saturday in Wellington vs. the Picton Kings. For the uninitiated, the Second Season is for teams eliminated in round one of the play offs. It has also been not-so-lovingly described as the “toilet bowl.” It doesn’t matter what bowl game the Peewees are in – they are playing for keeps! A plus to this part of the season is the opportunity for first year players to get more ice time and for everyone to experiment a little more with their “signature moves.”

Islander's Captain Braedon Oatway was a leader on and off the ice all season.

Peewee Islander’s series ends on a tough note.

The players, coaches and fans of the Gananoque Home Hardware Peewee Islanders arrived in Ennismore this past Saturday confident that the team would continue its winning ways after back to back wins the weekend prior. The Islanders started the game off in total control, dominating the first period and allowing only two shots against their...

The Gananoque Home Hardware Peewee Islanders were back on the road for Game 3 of their opening playoff series last Saturday in Ennismore, facing a 2 game deficit and potential first round elimination. The Eagles have a distinct edge on home ice with slanted refereeing giving them the edge all season long. Saturday was no different. Sixty-seven seconds into the game #3 Lucas Sanders was called for a head check followed thirty-sex seconds later by a hooking call on #17 Tim McFadden setting up an early 1:24 five-on-three opportunity for Ennismore.  The Islanders have been strong on the penalty kill...
